Four meoricho project completed

Finally I have completed four meoricho project. I was working on them quite a long time. Many things happened in my life during that period, good and bad but at last I managed to finish the dancheong paintings.

The meorichoes (머리초) were painted by temperas on pine wood boards. I used brushes which sizes were 2; 1 and 3/0 for detailed art work. After all I used varnish to secure the paintings. Now you can see the effects.

Dancheong is a Korean decorative style, which for ages has been used to embellish: buildings, musical instruments, items of everyday use and presently its ornaments can even be found on clothes. This painting style inspirated me to try to create something in its canon. My curiosity in this subject occured as a mix of my other interests - fascination in East Asian cultures, which has lasted from the time of my childhood and painting which appeared in my life when I started to learn icon writing. The painting process of dancheongs somehow enables me to experience Korean culture. This way I would like to present this type of painting, showing my experience in dancheong creating process with information about Korean culture. Enjoy!
